Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native, born in Houston on the 17th of April, 1972. Her dad, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local university. To follow in the footsteps of her father she earned a degree as a chemical engineer. In order to pursue her dream of acting and pursue her acting career, she decided to relocate in New York and try her attempt at Hollywood. Her Broadway roles were accompanied by a stint at a local establishment. She was in a minor part on "Felicity" (where the show was where she also encountered Scott Foley). Garner made her debut in Alias the action thriller. Her first big part was in the acclaimed love story 13 Going on 30. In it she played the teenager trapped inside a 30+ year old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick to direct the film. They kept looking for new films together up until the time of his death in 2011. Garner has been designated as an artist ambassador with Save the Children U.S.A. for 2009, played an important role within the group. Apart from promoting the importance of early education, literacy as well as nutrition at a at the national level, his role is also to promote the literacy of all Americans. In 2014, Garner has been a member of the trustees' board of this organization, pushing for early learning for children. Garner has visited many families as part of Early Steps to School Success the program created to teach parents how to help their child's development - and act as an advocate.
